Missed opportunity

Today's lyric:

"Rent a flat above a shop
Cut your hair and get a job
Smoke some fags and play some pool
Pretend you never went to school
But still you'll never get it right
'cos when you're laid in bed at night
watching roaches climb the wall
if you called your dad he could stop it all."

Pulp: "Common people"
From the album: "Different class"

A young German lad I'd stopped with on a school exchange turned up unexpectedly at my house, asking if I could get him a job and a flat?

I was fifteen and still at school/living at home.

I managed both feats but in the effort of it all, failed to notice the adoring looks from a beautiful girl in his party, who apparently wanted to 'get to know me better'.

My mate got off with her. B@st@ard!

I sometimes wonder how life may have turned out otherwise... Karen Kuntsche - where are you now?

Anyway, first dinner party at NOD's new flat on Saturday, where Spag Bol is on the menu - something we haven't had for ages and are v. much looking forward to.

Enjoy your weekends, y'all.

Absenteeism

Today's lyric:

"I feel inclined to blow my mind
Get hung up, feed the ducks with a bun
They all come out to groove about
Be nice and have fun in the sun
I'll tell you what I'll do - (What will you do?)
I'd like to go there now with you
You can miss out school - (Won't that be cool)
Why go to learn the words of fools?"

The Small Faces: "Itchycoo Park"
From the album: "Ogden's Nut Gone Flake"

Yesterday's break in transmission (which you won't detect unless you cross-refer in The Archives, as I only display one day's posting at a time, so don't bother) was because of a 24-hour bug which my normally robust constitution seems to have seen off in, well, 24 hours.

Just a little fragile in the colonic area, and surprisingly tired despite a supine day, but back in the modern world.

Nothing To Report

Today's lyric:

"I'm singing this note 'cause it fits in well with the way I'm feeling
There's a symphony that I hear in your heart sets my head a-reeling

But I'm in tune
Right in tune
I'm in tune
And I'm gonna tune
Right in on you."

The Who: "Getting in tune"
From the album: "Who's next"

Absolutely nothing going on between the ears today.

Bereft of inspiration. Disinclined to rant. Nondescript mood.

Please come back later?

And relax

Today's lyric:

"It's the same old story, it's the same old dream,
It's power, man, power, man, and all that it can bring.
If you want your money, you better stand in the line
'Cos you'll only end up picking up nickels and dimes."

The Kinks: "Powerman"
From the album: "The Best of the Kinks"

A nondescript weekend, but welcome for that, nonetheless.

Reasonably refreshed, and sort of ready for the inevitable weekslog ahead.

Vortexed

Today's lyric:

"I ran as fast as my feet could fly
Down country lanes where I took my time
Time, like a hound snapping at my heels
I got past thinking so I could feel -
Feels like a film playing in my head
And I kept rolling down green Surrey hills
In Spring."

Paul Weller: "Whirlpool's End"
From the album: "Stanley Road"

From the moment I stepped into work yesterday, to the moment I ran out, I felt like I was being sucked around and down into a whirlpool.

Pulled from the proverbial pillar to post by people demanding my time, brain, comment, instruction, output.

Every crisette which arose seemed to need me and a fire extinguisher.

Today, I will be in control.

Oh, and y'all enjoy your weekends.

Just sooo busy

Today's lyric:

"Hush now baby, baby, don't you cry.
Mamma's going to check out all your girlfriends for you,
Mamma won't let anyone dirty get through,
Mamma's gonna wait up until you get in,
Mamma will always find out where you've been,
Mamma's gonna keep baby healthy and clean.
Oooh babe, Oooh babe, Oooh babe,
You'll always be Baby to me.

Mother, did it need to be so high?"

Pink Floyd: "Mother"
From the album: "The Wall"

It's not that I cbatb, but just don't have the time to even think of something to post.

Sorry.

An appeal

Today's lyric:

"When I'm drivin' in my car and that man comes on the radio
And he's tellin' me more and more about some useless information
Supposed to fire my imagination.
I can't get no, oh no no no.
Hey hey hey, that's what I say."

Rolling Stones: "(I can't get no) Satisfaction "
From the album: "Out of our heads "

Coming up for three years ago, I set Buddy1 up with his own blog, and things went (sporadically) well.

A couple of months ago, he had trouble accessing Blogger via his home pc, so I removed some secondary internet security software that seemed to be clashing with his McAfee software, cleared his cookies and temporary internet files out and told McAfee to allow access by Blogger.com.

I left him with the ability to sign into Blogger.

However, it seems that something is (again) blocking access and despite following BloggerHelp's instructions about when you constantly get prompts to sign in etc. (and despite the fact that I can post using his sign in/password, he (still) can't blog.

Anyone got any ideas?

He's getting desperate!

MunchBunch

Today's lyric:

"At the counterpoint of nature
As four thumbs flick the tarot deck
And two tongues fork eight aces
Maybe sixteen fingers feel the fool, lives in two places
Where Rosy Lee can read this tea and leave me living the story
A white dove with a hawks' head, and an open mind, before me."

Roy Harper: "The Lord's Prayer"
From the album: "Lifemask"

Have just wolfed a bacon bloomer with brown.

Crash

Today's lyric:

"When a fellow has the blues and feels discouraged
And there's nothing else but trouble all his life
When he's always grumbled at and never happy
Living with a scolding, aggravating wife
If he's sick and tired of life and takes to drinking
Do not pass him by, don't greet him with a frown
Do not fail to lend a hand and try to help him
Always lift him up and never knock him down

If he stays out late at night because he's worried
And because his home is not what it should be
Have a smile for him whenever you should meet him
It would help him just the right way, don't you see
If he gambles when he's in the town or city
Tell him what he ought to do to gain the crown
Lend a hand and do not fail to show him pity
Always lift him up and never knock him down

If he cannot pay his debts and feels disgusted
If he's blue and doesn't have a word to say
Let him know you are his friend who can be trusted
It would cheer this lonely fellow on his way
If he finds it hard for him to keep his family
Let a kind word greet his ear when he's around
Don't say anything at all to make against him
Always lift him up and never knock him down

If he has no friends and everyone's against him
If he's failed at everything that he has tried
Try to lift his load, to help to bear his burden
Let him know that you are walking by his side
And if he feels that all is lost, and he is falling
Try to place that poor man's feet on solid ground
Just remember he's some mother's precious darling
Always lift him up and never knock him down
Always lift him up and never knock him down."

Ry Cooder: "Kanaka Wai Wai (Always lift him up)"
From the album: "Chicken Skin Music"

Woken by almighty claps of thunder at 5:15 this morning, followed by flashes of sheet lightning diffusing through the curtains.

Nature's alarm call, eh?

Where are you?

Today's lyric:

"So long sweet Melinda, don't forget that you're my girl
Gonna dress you fine and if you give me time, make you proud like I said I would
And if the Champs Elysee's no fallacy, I find the world looks like it should
Candy cars, movie stars, street bars, then I could stay a while."

Rod Stewart: "Farewell"
From the album: "Smiler"

At a leaving party yesterday, for a mate who's heading for the Far East for three years' work, at the age of near 60, I was asked if I thought I'd reached where I wanted to be at this stage in my career?

I'm still driven/ambitious enough to want to do more than I have so far (though I don't seek a managerial position again - looking after people is just too much grief!) and I certainly would travel/live abroad if the chance arose (though I somehow doubt Mrs.D. would voluntarily follow me again).

Stop and think for a mo. Are you fully content with where you are?

Takeover

Today's lyric:

"Hear the lark and harken to the barking of the dog fox - gone to ground.
See the splashing of the kingfisher flashing to the water.
And a river of green is sliding unseen beneath the trees
Laughing as it passes through the endless summer, making for the sea."

Pink Floyd: "Grantchester Meadows"
From the album: "Ummagumma"

This damn project is taking over our lives. Out all day yesterday. Later today, out for most of the day again.

Barely time to blog!

Fuksocks

Today's lyric:

"blank space."

Blank space: "blank space"
From the album: "blank space"

Nothing to read (so no "Reading" over there on the right)

Forgot to pack the iPod (so no "Today's Lyric" up above)

Had to stand all the way in today.

Not happy.

Not happy at all.

Ooh. In other news - The Ginger Whinger is returned from stud and hopefully 'with kitten' this time. Only 40 quid for a re-mate. Bargain if she's actually up t'duff!

Pootling

Today's lyric:

"You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane.
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me."

Pink Floyd: "Brain damage"
From the album: "Dark Side of the Moon"

Did b-all at the weekend except iPod the last of my record collection (7.3 days of choons) and watch others building my new fence (despite the atrocious weather, they worked on).

I now plan to lurk around others' collections in exchange for fixing their Blogger access (again!).

Great shame about Steve Irwin, though. I enjoyed his whole attitude to life and incomparable enthusiasm. Hope it was a quick death - dying underwater can't be the pleasantest of experiences..

No!

Today's lyric:

"Figure hanging on a leather band
Cog consults the watch he cups in his hand
Bejewelled movement measures lost and vanished time
Pray for the boy who makes his bed in cold earth and quicklime."

Elvis Costello: "Favourite hour"
From the album: "Brutal youth"

I know it's been a 'short' week, but I cannot believe that seven days have passed since I last exhorted y'all to have a great weekend?

Depending on the clemency of the weather (so that's that out, then..) we'll be out preparing the garden for The New Fence. Which means doing something about the wasps who have stupidly made a nest in the ground, because their entry hole is right in the middle of the excavatory area!

I hate wasps.

I know several fauna experts out there will argue 'til they're blue in the fizzog that they play a great role in keeping the number of bugs down, but we'll never eradicate insects significantly (unless we drop the a-bomb - but that's a bit overkill, to say the least?) so why bother snatching the odd gnat or mossie?

Anyway. Though it seems like only yesterday, have a great weekend, y'all.
